Changes from 28 June

Important Changes from Monday 28 June

POSTED Thursday 17 June 2021

Member Update

From Monday 28 June, we are making the following positive changes:

  • you will no longer need to book sessions for the gym or the pool
  • we will be re-opening all changing rooms for members
  • the gym will become one area again where you can move between the floors during your workout
  • lockers will be available (please collect a locker band from reception if you do not have one)
  • we are slowly re-introducing 50-metre pool sessions
  • the steam room and sauna will be available with restrictions on capacity

Why are we making these changes

We are able to make these changes safely because it is the end of the University academic year. Therefore, many of our student members have left campus for the summer, and there will be significantly fewer members using the Sport & Fitness club.

A huge majority of our members who have returned since lockdown expressed their wish for changing rooms to re-open as soon as possible and felt they would feel safe using them. Wherever possible, we’d ask that you still come ready for your workout and only use the changing rooms if absolutely necessary.

We appreciate the booking system has been welcomed by some, particularly our swim members, however, it is not compatible with opening the changing rooms safely. We must avoid the current clustering at arrival and departure times. This is especially relevant to the pool, where the changing rooms, steam room and sauna are in high demand.

The last bookable day for the gym and pool will be Sunday 27 June, from Monday 28 June onwards, there will be no booking system for the pool or gym. You can arrive at a time which suits you.

Please be assured, we still have high cleaning standards in place. But it is imperative that all members adhere to a two-metre social distance at all times, follow the advice and guidance of signage and our staff, as well as wearing a face covering at all times, except whilst exercising.

Managing Capacity

We will continue to closely monitor capacities in each area, therefore, if an area is too busy, you will see a red no entry sign at the entrance to the Sport & Fitness club. There will be a sign for the pool and a sign for the gym. If the red sign is showing, please wait outside the club until a member of staff changes the sign to green and welcomes you inside.

We will also monitor how long each member is spending in the gym to ensure all members have fair opportunity. Please bear this in mind and keep your workouts to a considerate duration.

Thank you for your continued support and respect for the safety and wellbeing of one another, and for our staff. This is a cautious but positive step forward.

Covid-19 Measures in the Gym

From Monday 28 June, you will not need to book your sessions, however, please adhere to the safety measures which are in place:

  • You are required to wear a face covering at all times except whilst exercising, this includes whilst making your way to and from your session. Please ensure you are wearing a face covering when moving between floors in the gym. Only one person should use the stairs in-between the main gym floor and free weights floor at once.
  • Maintain a two-metre social distance at all times.
  • Clean equipment before and after use to ensure it is to your standard, and ready for the next person.
  • Please keep your workouts to a considerate duration and a maximum of 20-minutes on any one piece of equipment or area. Be especially mindful in the free weights area which is in high demand.
  • We advise all members to take regular lateral flow tests. Regular testing will help stop the spread of Covid-19.

Covid-19 Measures in the Pool

From Monday 28 June, you will not need to book your sessions, however, please remember the safety measures which are in place:

  • You must wear a face covering when making your way to and from the session, and in the changing rooms.
  • Maintain a two-metre social distance at all times, even whilst swimming.
  • Do not use a shower which is directly adjacent to another member.
  • The steam room and sauna will be limited to a maximum of two people in each area. Please check cautiously before entering the area to see how many people are in there.
  • There is a 15 minutes maximum stay in the steam room and sauna for your safety.
  • Use the cleaning materials provided to wipe your locker before and after use.
  • We advise all members to take regular lateral flow tests. Regular testing will help stop the spread of Covid-19.
