Adult Swimming Lessons

Swimming lessons provide a great way to keep fit, improve your overall wellbeing and increase your confidence in the water. From your first strokes to developing your technique, we have you covered.

Please note, we currently only have limited availability for 1:1 and Master level swimming lessons. We are not currently accepting enquiries  for all other levels as the waiting list is full.

1:1 LESSONS

Contact us for more information and bookings. Please note, it may take up to 14 days to process 1:1 lesson requests due to time needed for administration. Cost: £125 for five lessons for members; £150 for five lessons for non-members

MASTER SWIMMER (Level 4)

These lessons are for advanced swimmers, continuing work on Front Crawl, Backstroke and Breaststroke, and equipping you with the skills to compete in events.

There is currently limited availability for Master swimming lessons. If you would like to enquire about Master lessons, email swimming@sportandfitness.bham.ac.uk
BEGINNERS (Level 1)

This first stage requires no previous swimming experience. It will work on increasing water confidence, and basic front and back paddle.

 

Lessons and the waiting list are currently full for beginner lessons.

INTERMEDIATE (Level 2)

This stage is for people who can demonstrate front and back paddle. It will introduce full front crawl, with rhythmical breathing, and backstroke. Breaststroke may be introduced.

 

Lessons and the waiting list are currently full for intermediate lessons.

IMPROVERS (Level 3)

Taking place in the deep end of the pool, these lessons will work on improving technique in Front Crawl, Backstroke and Breaststroke. It will work on increasing stamina and swimming up to 400m.

DISABILITY 1:1 LESSONS

Thanks to the Alumni Impact Fund, a University initiative that supports innovative projects, free one-to-one swimming lessons for staff and students with disabilities will be available and will be suitable for all types of disability. Register your interest now using the ‘Register your interest in Disability 1:1 lessons’ button for these free lessons, and you will be contacted by a member of our swim team with further information when they are able to resume. Courses of up to 10 free lessons per person will be available.

What to expect

  • With a maximum of one swimming teacher to ten adults, you will gain individual tuition, empowering you to develop your skills and confidence
  • Equipment is provided including a locker band, floats, woggles, kick boards and pull buoys
  • The pool has walk-in steps rather than ladders, for easier access in and out of the pool
  • Lessons are suitable for physically impaired swimmers, however, if you need support in the water, your carer will need to support you in the water

Please note: lessons will run for ten consecutive weeks from the date of your first lesson. Only lessons missed due to medical reasons (doctor’s note required) can be re-credited. Please see the Terms & Conditions of Use for more information.
