Tiverton Gym will be closed for the Christmas period, from 11.30pm on Tuesday 15 December until Monday 4 January 2021. Tiverton Gym members have been invited to book sessions at UoB Sport & Fitness gym (on the main University campus) during that time.
Please ensure you check the Stay Safe at Sport & Fitness page before you visit.
The safety of our members and staff is our priority, so we’ve made some changes to our facilities and procedures to ensure you can continue safely on your fitness journey with confidence, including the new one-way system, which is highlighted in this video.
Everyone will have a part to play in keeping one another safe, so please familiarise yourself with the changes and follow the advice of our staff.
Cleaning and disinfecting. We’ll be cleaning and sanitising all areas and equipment in-between each bookable session, in addition to a daily deep clean.
Social distancing. We are adopting a two-metre social distancing rule to ensure the safety and wellbeing of our members and staff.
Protecting you and our staff. Cleaning equipment and hand sanitiser is readily available throughout the gym.
One way system. Please follow the one-way route around the gym, especially when using the weights room.
Reduced facilities. The matted area and cable room will be temporarily not in use. The changing rooms and lockers will also be out of use, and the toilets in the main gym will be accessible on a one-in, one-out basis. Please see the area-specific advice below for changing instructions.
Stay home if you’re unwell. Please don’t come to the gym if you have any of the COVID-19 symptoms.
Pre-book your session. Only those who have booked a gym session will be able to enter the building. You can book online via the website or via the UB Sport Fitness app (available on Apple and Android). You will not be able to book when you arrive. Please note, you will not be permitted access into the gym if you are more than five minutes late, this is so we can manage capacities and social distancing.
Use the NHS Covid-19 app to scan the Tiverton Gym QR code on arrival. QR codes are located on signage outside of Tiverton Gym, please scan before you enter the building.
Arrive on time and ready to work out. Please come in your workout clothes as the changing rooms will not be available. Please only bring a small drawstring bag for your belongings as lockers will not be in use.
Face coverings are mandatory except when you are exercising. This includes the outside queuing area, reception, corridors and stairwells. You will be refused entry into Sport & Fitness if you are not wearing a face covering or have an exemption.
Clean equipment after use. Please help protect yourself and fellow members by cleaning the gym equipment before and after use, with the cleaning products provided. Focus on areas you have touched such as handles and screens. Return all gym equipment and cleaning products to where they belong so other members do not have to search around the gym.

Yes, as always, our staff will be available to help you, from a safe social distance.
We aren’t able to offer entirely dedicated sessions for vulnerable groups, however, please contact us via the Leave a Message portal on the website and we will advise you of the quieter session times.
Sometimes when we make updates, the app can cache old data so the new updates do not show. If you close down the application and restart, this will enable new updates to refresh.
In order to support the NHS’ Track and Trace system if needed, we are asking all members to ensure you have your membership card to swipe in and out of the facilities. This is so that we know who has visited the premises and when, so that we are able to contact you in the event of an actual or suspected Covid-19 outbreak. This will help us to comply with our duties of health and safety towards the University community carried out in the public task, allowing us to work with the NHS’ Track and Trace system if required. When necessary, we will share notification of positive cases of Covid-19 to Public Health England (or any successor body) to comply with our statutory obligations. Data required for this purpose will be dealt with in line with our Privacy Statement.
The NHS Covid-19 app is available from the App Store and Google Play for those over the age of 16. For help on downloading, visit the NHS website.
