Student Membership Refunds

We are offering students with a membership at Sport & Fitness or Tiverton Gym, a pro-rata refund for the time in which these facilities have been closed due to a Covid-19 national lockdown.

The application form for refunds is now open and will close on Friday 14 May 2021. Please read the below information carefully before submitting your refund request form. 

Applications will begin being processed no earlier than Monday 17 May.

Once you have completed the refund request form, and it has been processed by the University of Birmingham Finance Department, you will receive a remittance email detailing the refund amount.

You can receive your refund no earlier than Tuesday 1 June 2021.

Step 1: Please provide your details for the refund via the form below. Please check your details carefully before submitting as incorrectly typed details will result in a delay to your refund. Refund application forms will be open until Friday 14 May 2021. Please be aware, international bank transfers incur a charge which will be deducted from your refund amount so where possible, please use a UK bank account.

Step 2: Refund applications will be processed from Monday 17 May.

Step 3: From Tuesday 1 June, refund payments will be sent to the bank details provided. You will receive a remittance email detailing your refund amount.

If you need to request a refund for a membership, class vouchers and a sports club membership, please complete all the applicable forms individually as refunds will be paid in separate transactions correlating to the membership / vouchers purchased.

How will the refund amount be calculated?

Sport & Fitness and Tiverton Gym membership refunds are calculated based on a pro-rata calculation of the value of your membership, in days, starting from Thursday 5 November and including any subsequent days which we are closed due to national restrictions. For those memberships which include squash and/or classes, an additional deduction has been made to compensate for the restrictions on ‘normal’ squash play and indoor classes.

Class voucher refunds are calculated based on the value of each unused class voucher (relative to the price per class if you purchased a voucher bundle).

Sports club membership refunds will be calculated on pro-rata refund basis, either starting from Thursday 5 November 2020, when club activity ceased due to the national lockdown, or if club activity ceased prior to that date due to NGB guidance. We will liaise with your Club Committee regarding refund amounts.

I have class vouchers and/or a student club membership, why are they not mentioned in my email about membership refunds?

If you have an additional subscription such as class vouchers, you will be contacted in regards to each subscription you have and there will be a separate form for each as they will be processed separately.

I don't have a UK bank account, can the funds be transferred to an international bank account?

Please be aware, transfers to an international bank account will incur a charge (varies depending on the country). If you would like to contact us about using an international bank account, please email us on Membershipenquiries@sportandfitness.bham.ac.uk

I have received an email about a membership refund and a separate class voucher refund email, will I need to fill the form twice?

Yes, when we send the refund forms, please complete the correct form for each refund.

Can I roll my membership forward to the next academic year instead of getting a refund?

No membership expiry dates will not be extended so please apply for a refund for the period of closure.
