Hockey U21 European success

Last week at the Under 21 Junior European Championship, the UoB Hockey squad had a strong 7 current members representing England and Wales.

Eddie Way (England U21’s men) captained the side to Silver after narrowly losing to Germany in the final. Eddie was also England’s top goalscorer with 4 goals throughout the tournament.

Catherine Ledesma, Lily Walker, future student Pippa Lock and U21 captain Holly Munro represented England U21 Women. They had a tough tournament finishing 6th. A special mention must also go to Freya Bull, who was selected to represent England U21 but sadly couldn’t play due to injury days before the start of the tournament.

Delyth Thomas and Cerys Preston (Cerys will hopefully be joining us in September!), represented Wales U21’s who won Bronze at European Championship II securing promotion into the top division of European hockey. Wales only narrowly missed out on a place in the final after drawing to Italy 4-4 in the semi final (lost 2-1 of penalty shuffles).

Jolyon Morgan and Miles Margetson represented Wales U21 Men in European Champion III, which was fantastic as previously, Wales haven’t entered an U21’s Boys team so were entered into tier 3 of Europe. Wales came away unbeaten and won Gold, securing promotion to Championship II. If that wasn’t enough, current players Amy Costello and Lily Owsley have just returned from Japan where they have been representing GB seniors in test series against Japan. A fantastic showcasing of the world-class talent here at UoB, so keep an eye on the club’s Twitter for up to date news!
