Men’s Basketball start with a narrow loss

The Men’s Basketball 2nd team started their season with a hard-fought 58-50 loss against Birmingham rivals Aston University 1sts in the Midlands 3A League at the Doug Ellis Sports Centre.

In a late tip-off at 8:30pm, it was a stop-start basketball game and the Lions were unable to push the ball fast up the court as they usually like to do, as the home side committed foul after foul to halt their momentum. With 65 fouls between the two teams, quality basketball was sporadic and free throws were key throughout the game. This saw Aston take a 5 point lead into the last quarter with the score at 47-42. Home court advantage seemed to play a part in the 4th as Birmingham saw their deficit increase to double digits, but fought back valiantly to bring the final score to a very respectable 58-50. The Lions play their first home game of the season next week against Coventry 2nds and will look to learn from the loss and be stronger mentally in order to improve on the 0-1 record.

The thoughts of the team post-match:

“Tough loss to begin the season, could’ve gone either way late game, but we’ll come back even hungrier.”
