In early October, 40 members of UoB athletics club helped run the first ever Street2Stadium trail day at the University running track. The event is hosted by British Athletics and over 130 school children from the Birmingham area were in attendance.
The aim of the day was to try to identify talent that could one day blossom into potential Olympians and Paralympians. The day consisted of three main events, one from each of the ‘athletic disciplines.’ Every pupil took part in a 60m sprint race, three push throws and three long jump attempts. After all this the results were compiled and then a small selection of students will be asked to join the Street2Stadium academy for 2020.
Members of the UoB alumni and current coaches helped were also in attendance to help out and all of those who were volunteered helped make the event a huge success. Event Organiser, Dean Miller, even went as far as to say that the 40 students who volunteered on the day “were a real credit to the university.”
