Student Club
Here at the University of Birmingham, we have 4 teams competing in different BUCS leagues with all 4 of the teams playing in the highest divisions available to them. Each team has the possibility to travel all over the country to represent the university at some of the top courses in England.
We have around 35-40 active members each year. Handicaps ranging from +2 for our performance squad members to 20 for our more social golfers. As teammates we aren’t simply people who play together in competition, we are very good friends away from the sport with many social events that are held throughout the year encouraging everybody to get involved.
Students are offered the chance to join Edgbaston Golf Club during term time (October – June), this permits the use of the course, practice facilities and lessons whenever they require. Find out more about Edgbaston Golf Club. The golf club is grateful for the support it receives from the R&A.
Performance Golf
The Performance Programme at the University of Birmingham is proud to be one of seventeen R&A funded institutions, allowing our Golfers to experience and engage with elite level golf whilst studying for a degree. Around 8 players are selected for the performance squad annually, with access to strength and conditioning sessions and physiotherapy services, in addition to nutrition and sports psychology support. The performance squad are also offered the chance to compete in BUCS Tour and R&A Student Tour Series, which take place at various courses throughout the UK.

Inclusion, Accessibility & Disability Practices
The Golf Club embraces inclusivity by offering training sessions tailored to golfers of all skill levels, from BUCS competitors to development squad members who receive coaching from a qualified instructor. To accommodate individuals with sensory sensitivities, the club organises social events such as meals and mini-golf outings while also reserving quieter practice bays to provide a comfortable training environment.
Accessibility is a key focus, with wheelchair-friendly pathways, locker rooms, and rest areas at the club’s home course. Welfare officers are available to provide mental health support, ensuring members feel supported in balancing academics and sport. Additionally, the driving range features automated tee height and ball dispensers, removing physical barriers for those with mobility limitations. The club’s recently submitted Golf Club Improvement Plan further highlights ongoing efforts to create an inclusive and safe sporting environment.
