Birmingham Scholars Shine on the National and International Stage
It’s been another standout week for our University of Birmingham sporting scholars and alumni, with incredible performances on the track and pitch. From securing European Championship standards to representing England on the world stage, our student-athletes continue to make their mark.
Issy Boffey Secures European Indoor Championship Standard
At the Keely Klassic, EDCAP Graduate Scholar Issy Boffey delivered an impressive performance, winning the 800m and, in doing so, achieving the European Indoor Championship qualifying standard.
This achievement sets her up perfectly for the UK Athletics Indoor Championships this weekend, where she’ll look to build on this momentum. A huge congratulations to Issy as she continues to showcase the strength of Birmingham’s elite sport programme!
Lottie Bingham Represents England in FIH Pro League
On the international hockey stage, Lottie Bingham proudly represented England at the FIH Pro League in India. England faced the hosts in two fiercely contested matches, narrowly losing 3-2 on Saturday, before bouncing back to win on penalties after a 2-2 draw on Sunday.
Our Birmingham alumni also played a key role, with Lily Walker and Pippa Lock both in action for England. Lily captained the team on Saturday and later stepped up in the shoot-out on Sunday, scoring a crucial goal to help England secure victory.
Birmingham Talent Leading the Way
These achievements highlight the world-class talent within our student and alumni community, reinforcing Birmingham’s reputation as a powerhouse in university sport. Whether competing on the track, in the pool, or on the pitch, our athletes continue to inspire with their dedication, resilience, and success at the highest level.
We can’t wait to see what’s next for Issy, Lottie, Lily, and Pippa—watch this space!
