BUCS Conference Cup 2025 round-up

It has been an incredible week for University of Birmingham Sport, with teams delivering exceptional performances across multiple competitions in the BUCS Midlands Conference Cup. From dominant squash victories to historic fencing and hockey wins, our student-athletes have showcased their skill, determination, and competitive spirit.

Conference Cup Glory

Our teams excelled in the Conference Cup, securing six titles out of nine finals—a phenomenal achievement! A huge congratulations to the following teams who were crowned Conference Cup Champions:

Standout Performances

  • Tennis M1 – A commanding 6-0 victory over Loughborough M4 sealed the title.

  • Fencing M1 – Overcame NTU M1 with a score of 125-110.

  • Golf Mixed 3 – Edged out Nottingham Mixed 3 with a 3.5-2.5 win.

  • Hockey M6 – Triumphed over Aston M1 with a 3-1 victory in the Conference Trophy.

  • Hockey W3 – A dominant 4-0 win against Loughborough W5.

  • Hockey M4 – Won against UoB M3, making it six Conference Cup wins for the University of Birmingham!

Through to BUCS Big Wednesday!

Five of our teams have battled their way into the prestigious BUCS Big Wednesday finals in Loughborough on 19 March. Our squash teams led the charge with a clean sweep of victories, ensuring all four squads will be competing for national titles.

BUCS Big Wednesday Finalists:

 

  • Squash M15-0 win over Loughborough M1; will face either UWE M1 or Warwick M1 in the National Championship Final.

  • Squash W14-0 victory against Edinburgh W1; will play Nottingham W1 in the National Championship Final.
  • Squash M25-0 win over Newcastle M2; into the National Trophy Final against Nottingham M2.

  • Squash W24-0 victory over Edinburgh W2; set to play Nottingham W2 in the National Trophy Final.

  • Fencing W1 – A huge achievement making it to the Women’s National Trophy Final, where they will take on Exeter.

While we celebrate these achievements, we also recognise the efforts of our Netball W1 and Rugby W1 teams, who unfortunately were knocked out of their respective national competitions. Their performances throughout the season have been outstanding, and we are incredibly proud of their hard work and dedication.
