How to Stay Motivated During the Colder Months

A change in season doesn’t have to mean saying goodbye to your sport and fitness activities. Here are some of our top tips to help you tackle those motivation dips and keep pushing your potential.

Inevitably, as the weather gets colder and the hours of daylight reduce, it can become difficult to maintain motivation to engage in your usual scheduled activities. If you find yourself struggling, try out the below:

1. Set Seasonal Goals

A change in season is a good time to modify your goals. That may mean a change in the type of activity you engage in, for example, switching from an outdoor run in the mornings to a lunchtime treadmill session  in the gym. Putting too much pressure on yourself to maintain your summer routine can feel discouraging where the outdoor conditions aren’t as inviting for many.

2.Create a routine

Planning out your day-to-day helps you create more structure and allows you to allocate as much or as little time as you like to your fitness and sport activities. It can also be a good way to keep you on track when working towards defined goals. There’s no one size fits all approach to the perfect routine, so don’t be afraid to switch up your schedule each week to see what your body enjoys most.

For some, a morning class followed by a relaxing swim is the perfect set up for a productive day, for others it may be signing up for evening  level-up workshop to learn new skills before winding down for the evening.

3. Buddy up

Having a plus one to engage in your favourite sport or fitness activity can be game changing and adds an additional element of fun. Feeling competitive? Explore our social sport programme and go head to head against a friend or family member across a number of sports.
