Your Wellness Service
The UB Sport Wellness service aims to help those students who are currently experiencing psychological difficulties, who would benefit from support in the areas of Exercise, Nutrition, and/or Meditation.
This support will be offered on a one-to-one basis, and may include follow up sessions if required. We welcome any students seeking support, irrespective of their connection to UB Sport & Fitness.
Our ethos is to encourage a more observant state of mind, regardless of the activity being carried out.

Moving the body, what we eat, and how we relate to our minds are all, inextricably linked.
With a selection of support options available, there is something on offer for everyone. From one-on-one consulations to meditation groups to nutritional advice and support with your mental health.

Service Criteria
- Adults over the age of 18
- Enrolled as a student at UoB
- If currently suffering from a diagnosed mental health condition, the student must also be under the care of a GP
What should I bring?
Comfortable clothing, a willingness to learn, and an interest in directing attention inwards. Gym clothing is not necessary, unless we have already prearranged to go over exercises in the gym

Appointments will be on a one-to-one basis, with an initial assessment lasting approx 30 minutes.
The number of appointments will depend on the individual’s requirements on a case-by-case basis, alongside the resources available.
Our Wellness Expert
Peter
Senior Gym Instructor
Fitness, Bodybuilding, Nutrition and Meditation Peter holds both a BSc and MSc in Health, Nutrition, and Fitness-related fields and is a Registered Sports Nutritionist (AfN). With over 13 years of experience in meditation practice, Peter brings a unique blend of clinical and personal development expertise.
He began his career as a Public Health Nutritionist with the NHS, spending four years in the role before transitioning to a Clinical Trials Unit as a Data Manager.
Over the past eight years, he has worked as an Instructor and Personal Trainer at UB Sport, where he completed his MSc in Sports Nutrition, shifting his focus from public health to sports-specific nutrition.
Beyond his professional work, Peter is deeply passionate about meditation, and understanding the mind-body connection.
His 13 years of practice include extended stays in monasteries, group and solitary retreats, and completing the NHS Mindful-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) course. Peter enjoys guiding both individuals and groups through meditation techniques, offering insights into the complexities of mindfulness.
Activity descriptions
Guided Meditation
A selection of meditation techniques can be taught, ranging from concentration and insight methods, to emotionally opening styles.
Breathwork Session
Guided breathwork techniques can be useful to calm down the body and mind.
Exercise Guidance
Any guidance on exercises, and what / how this can be incorporated into daily life can be provided.
Nutrition
Guidance on nutritional issues will also be available. This can be to assist a sport specific goal, or a more general, health focused goal.
