Car Parking

Can I cancel facility, court or course bookings?

You can cancel a court or pitch at any time, but you will only be entitled to a refund of your booking fee if you give at least 24 hours’ notice of cancellation. You can cancel a class booking at any time. You will only be entitled to get back the credits from your voucher if you give at least two hours’ notice of cancellation. You can cancel your course by giving us written notice within 14 days of you booking it. After 14 days, you lose your right to cancel the course. We can cancel court, course, pitch and class bookings at any time due to unforeseen circumstances and circumstances beyond our control. We will do everything reasonably possible to advertise cancellations on our website.

How many children can one adult accompany for swimming?

For all general sessions, juniors under 14 must be accompanied by an adult, and one adult is able to accompany up to two children aged between 3 – 13. Juniors under 3 must have one accompanying adult per child.

Where is the car park for members?

Our car park is situated on Edgbaston Park Road, the entrance is opposite Lloyds Bank. Please take a ticket and validate this upon leaving at the grey machines in reception. The pedestrian exit and lift to the Club from the car park is on the opposite side to where you entered in the car.

Are there childcare facilities at Sport & Fitness?

We don’t currently offer any child-care facilities, however, we do run regular Junior Sports camps over holiday periods. Further information can be seen here.

Do you offer junior swimming lessons?

Yes we offer swimming lessons to juniors aged 0 – 17 (adult lessons thereafter). Please complete the enquiry form here. For all general swimming sessions, juniors under 14 must be accompanied by an adult, and one adult is able to accompany up to two children aged between 3 – 13. Juniors under 3 must have one accompanying adult per child.

Where can I download the MyWellness app which syncs with the equipment in the gym?

Technogym’s Mywellness app can be downloaded for free from the App Store or Google Play.

What is the minimum age for attending adult only swimming sessions?

You must be 18+ to attend an adults only swimming session.

Do you offer female only gym sessions?

We don’t offer any women only gym sessions, however, we do run Women’s Weights classes weekly.

Do you offer female only swimming sessions?

We don’t currently offer any female only swimming sessions as the architecture of our pool is not suitable.

How many squash courts can I book as a squash member?

Peak Squash members can book one peak court per day, capped at 2 peak courts per week. Peak members can book unlimited off peak courts.
Off Peak Squash Members can book one off-peak squash court per day.

Any bookings outside of the quota will be charged to the members account at the relevant cost.

Can I join a social squash league?

University of Birmingham Sport & Fitness believe in healthy competition, therefore we have a social squash league open to all members. Social squash league sessions are on Friday evenings 6- 9pm and Sunday mornings 10.40am – 12.40pm. We also have four teams who compete on behalf of the University of Birmingham in the Warwickshire League.

Can I hire equipment?

Yes, rackets and balls are available to hire from reception for £1 each.

How long are squash court bookings?

All squash court bookings are 40 minutes long.

How many squash courts do you have?

We have six glass back squash courts. Three courts can be made into two doubles courts, these cannot be booked online, please email to request doubles courts.

How do I join?

If you’re interested in joining us, all applications must be completed in person and you’re required to book into an appointment with our sales team. The joining fee is currently £35.

*Please bring a valid form of Identification (Passport, Driving License, Birth certificate for any junior members). Any Alumni members are required to bring their valid graduation certificate.

Yes, you’re able to begin using your membership as soon as you’ve signed up.

I am disabled, can I use your facilities?

All members of the community are welcome to use the facilities at Sport & Fitness. Anyone taking out a membership is asked to declare a disability; the result of that answer will determine if a Personal Emergency Evacuation Plan (PEEP) is needed. Our trained staff will walk your journey with you, discuss, and agree any adjustments to help you during your visit. Please contact our membership team on if you require further information on access.

Locker bands

Guests and Pay & Go users can purchase a locker band for £5 or hire one for £5.40 and £5 will be refunded upon return (locker bands must be returned on the same day for a refund). Please note, locker band payments are card only, we cannot accept cash.

What discounts do you offer?

Over 65’s along with Staff, Students & Alumni of the University of Birmingham receive discounted membership rates.

Can I pay by cash or card?

Our sales team only accept payment via debit/credit card (excluding American Express).

Any outstanding payments can be paid in person at the reception desk, by calling our reception team on 0121 414 4117 (extension 7) or by logging in HERE with your email address and PIN.

How do I change my personal details?

You can update your contact details by contacting our membership team.

For any payment changes, you can obtain a direct debit mandate from reception. Please allow 5 working days for any direct debit changes to take effect. Direct debits will be deducted on the 1st of every month, or the closest working day after. This date is fixed and cannot be amended.

How long is my membership?

We offer both monthly and annual memberships. The initial period for monthly memberships is three full calendar months. The initial period for annual memberships is 12 months.

Once outside of your initial period, you can downgrade your membership by filling in a ‘downgrade of membership form’ available from the clubs reception desk. One full months’ notice is required.

How do I end my flexible membership?

As long as you are outside your initial three full calendar month period, you can end your membership by giving at least one full calendar month’s notice. You can give notice by email to or through the Sport & Fitness reception. The membership team will notify you of when your final direct debit payment is due to be collected.

Please be aware that cancelling your direct debit, without giving notice, will not end your membership. If you cancel your direct debit before your final direct debit payment is collected, we may take steps to recover unpaid membership fees in accordance with our terms and conditions of membership.

Can I transfer my membership to anyone else?

No, memberships cannot be transferred under any circumstances and membership cards cannot be used by anyone other than the membership holder.

Can I suspend my membership?

Suspending membership enables members to freeze their membership for periods when they are away. Members must give one full calendar month’s notice and there is a minimum period of two calendar months for suspending the membership. There is an overall a charge of 25% on your membership fee.

Who is controlling the car park?

Our internal system will control the car park. It will have CCTV, and will also be patrolled by UKPC.

Renewing your vouchers

If you are renewing a class or bundle of classes, log in to your online account here and click ‘Membership’.

You should then select ‘Purchase a new membership’, then ‘View details or renew membership/vouchers’

Please note, if you would like a different quantity of classes (10, 20, 40 or 60), select ‘Sign up for a membership/vouchers’.

Where can staff park?

University of Birmingham staff who are members of Sport & Fitness can park on campus in the usual way.

What are the charges for members parking in Sport & Fitness’ multi-storey?

Community & Staff members receive a complimentary 3 hours free parking per visit.

When does the car park close?

The new Sport & Fitness car park is locked each night at 11pm on weekdays and 9pm at weekends. Overnight parking isn’t permitted.

What are the charges for non-community or staff members?

Standard charges will apply to non-members, university staff, students, and visitors.

I am interested in joining; can I park whilst I take a look around?

If you’ve come in for an appointment with our membership sales team, we are able to validate your parking ticket at reception after you have attended.

Where can I park if I have my children with me?

Swimming lesson users (whether parents are community, staff or students) are able to park in the Sport & Fitness car park during the period of the swim lesson; your child’s card will have car park access included for an allotted amount of time around their swimming lesson. This is the only exception for staff or students parking in the Sport & Fitness car park.

I have an off-peak membership, what is the latest I can enter?

Off peak members must ensure they have entered at least 20 minutes before off-peak time ends.

If I have a gym membership can I pay to use the swimming pool, sauna or steam room?

Access to any of the above would require a current swim membership.

How do I provide feedback about my membership experience?

We treat all people who make complaints with respect, and expect respect for the staff who deal with complaints. All feedback is recorded in a way that can be analysed in order to improve services in both the short and the long term.

If you have a complaint, comment or concern, discuss this with a member of staff. After speaking to a member of staff, if you are still not happy you can follow the complaints procedure below:

• We will aim to settle your complaint within 10 working days. If you are not satisfied with our response to your complaint, you can follow the appeals procedure below:

How do I access the gym?

To enter the gym you will need to swipe your active membership card, or student / staff card if you have an active membership, through the entry barriers. You will not be permitted access to the gym without your card. Penalties apply for card swapping.

What time does the gym open and close?

The gym is open from 6am – 10.30pm on weekdays and 7am – 8pm on weekends.

I have used a gym before, do I still need to do an induction?

We recommend everyone has an induction before using the gym so we can show you how to get the most out of our equipment, the interactive screens and how to use the Technogym Wellness app if you have a smartphone.

Can I cancel a class?

If you need to cancel a class, this must be done at least 1 hour before the timetabled start time via the Sport & Fitness app or online. If you used a voucher to pay for your class, this will be automatically re-credited to your account.

If you do not cancel in time, this will be considered a no-show. A strike is applied to your account, if 3 strikes are recorded in a calendar month, your class booking privileges will be frozen.

Do I need to book?

We recommend you book your classes to ensure a space is reserved for you as some classes get full quickly.

How far in advance can I book classes?

Sport & Fitness members receive a two week advanced period to book into classes.
Non-Members receive a seven day advance booking period.

Are classes included in my membership?

Only if you have an inclusive membership. All other members can add classes to their account using Pay and Go Classes

Can junior members use the gym?

No, for insurance reasons, we do not permit under 18s into the gym.

Can a junior attend a class on their own?

Over 14’s can attend classes unsupervised, please note which classes say 14+ in the description to identify appropriate classes. Children aged 6-13 must be signed in and out by their parent/guardian and the parent/guardian must remain present in Sport & Fitness for the duration. Children aged 2-6 must remain supervised at all times.

How do I book a junior class?

In the same way that adults book classes, juniors have an individual account which can be accessed (usually via their parent/guardian’s email address) with their own unique PIN.

Junior classes are bookable using vouchers.

Vouchers can be purchased singular or in bundles of 10, 20, 40 and 60.  Once the parent/guardian has purchased a voucher on the junior’s account, they can book classes online, at reception or using the kiosk.

I am hosting an event at Sport & Fitness, will you provide equipment?

We have a wide range of sports equipment, tables, chairs and PA systems. If you have a special request, please include it in your facility hire form and we will try to accommodate you. Additional equipment may come at a cost.

Is photography / video allowed at your events?

Yes, amateur photography and video is allowed at events unless otherwise stated when purchasing tickets. If you would like to apply for professional photography accreditation for an event, please send your request to

Where can I park for events?

Sport & Fitness has a dedicated car park including 18 spaces for blue badge holders.

The University of Birmingham also has a number of pay and display car parks on campus.

Is there food and drink available at events?

Yes, every event is different, some will have dedicated catering facilities otherwise there is an onsite Costa which is open from 8am – 10pm on weekdays and 8am – 8pm on weekends.

I am in a wheelchair, is there wheelchair space in the spectator areas?

Yes, we can accommodate wheelchair users at all our events, however, as each event is set up differently, the location of wheelchair seating will change. Please contact to find out about access to a specific event.
