Gaelic Football

Student Club

Gaelic Football is a traditional Irish sport that utilises a comprehensive range of skills that make it ideal for beginners. It is a fast-paced sport and many of our players learn how to play at University.

We have both a men’s and women’s team, and each competes in their respective leagues with players coming from a wide range of backgrounds, and as such the club prides itself on its inclusivity. We divide our resources equally between the men’s and women’s teams and we don’t hold trials; anyone who makes the effort to come to training regularly will be picked for matches and all are welcome, regardless of experience or ability.

We hold many socials across the year. You’ll see us at Sports Night every Wednesday, with post-match socials often on the cards. On top of this, we host multiple annual events. We partake in the Birmingham St. Patrick’s Day Parade every year, which coincides with our intra-club Alumni match.

Later this year, we will be battling it out against Aussie Rules in the University’s annual International Rules match. The various socials and fundraising activities throughout the year enable the club to foster a strong sense of community and teamwork.

Playing Gaelic Football at the University of Birmingham allows you to play regularly in a regional BUCS league, compete in an end-of-year National Championship, and go to weekly social events all whilst keeping fit, having fun and meeting lots of friendly faces! Join us to be a part of a community where every player is valued.
