Gaelic football

STUDENT CLUB

Gaelic Football is an Irish sport that encompasses a wide range of skills which make it excellent for beginners. It is a fast-paced sport and many of our players learn how to play at University. We have both a men’s and women’s team, and each compete in their respective leagues as well as an end of year championship. Our players come from a wide range of backgrounds, and as such the club prides itself on its inclusivity – we divide our resources equally between the men’s and women’s teams and we don’t hold trials; anyone who makes the effort to come to training regularly will be picked for matches.

We hold many socials across the year! You’ll see us at Sports Night every Wednesday, on top of our multiple annual events! We partake in the Birmingham St. Patrick’s Day Parade every year, which coincides with our intra-club Alumni match. Later this year, we will be battling it out with Aussie Rules in a highly anticipated return to the University’s annual International Rules match – which will be making its return for the first time since pre-Covid.

Playing Gaelic Football at the University of Birmingham gives you the opportunity to play regularly in a regional BUCS league, compete in the national championship, and go to weekly social events all whilst being one of the cheapest sports clubs at the University!
