Rugby Union (Men's)

Whether you’re an aspiring professional, or enjoy recreational rugby, the University of Birmingham offers players the opportunity to enjoy Rugby Union at every level. There are opportunities for everyone to maximise their development and enjoy the game.

Performance Rugby

The men’s first team is a performance club benefitting from extensive strength and conditioning and sports science support, ensuring a professional approach is taken to every aspect of training and development.

A rugby specific scholarship includes:

  • Monetary value (TBC dependent on standard of performance)
  • A Sport and Fitness Gym Membership (Value £350)
  • Two coached S&C sessions per week (a full weeks S&C Program)
  • Free physiotherapy
  • Access to individual S&C and conditioning program
  • Access to video analysis software
  • Access Nutrition workshops
  • Access to Sport Psychology sessions to support performance
  • Access to recovery sessions

Performance player support includes:

Student Club

Our student Rugby club will provide you with an all-round university Rugby experience. With four league teams and a 5th XV providing extra fixtures, there are multiple opportunities to be involved competitively and socially. The club welcomes all level’s of players.

Facilities

2x 3G Pitches and multiple grass pitches

All our outdoor facilities are located within a 20-minute walk of Sport & Fitness. Bournbrook pitches are opposite the club and our Metchley site is adjacent to Pritchatts Park student accommodation on Metchley Lane.

Gym

Our state-of-the-art gym is available for all your strength and conditioning needs.

Training Times

Exact times will be confirmed by the club upon registration.

Competition Opportunities

4 teams that compete in BUCS Leagues ranging from Premier North -through to Tier 3, Cup Competitions and BUCS 7’s tournament.

Social Rugby

The University Mens 5th team offers you the opportunity to play rugby around your studies. Matches are played against other intramural teams and local universities in the cluster league. There are a wide range of social opportunities throughout the year.

Membership Price

£210 annual membership includes:

  • Maximum 22 weeks qualified coaching at all training sessions and fixtures
  • Overnight accommodation for specific fixtures
  • Pre-season friendlies
  • Pre-season included
  • Maximum x 22 weeks x 5.5 hrs per week training
  • Access to BUCS 7s competition
  • Travel to BUCS Fixtures across 4 teams
  • Sport related equipment provided
